What does Gender Apartheid mean to you?
Western women are now joining our campaign & standing with us United Against Gender Apartheid because they recognize the values we are fighting for. The international community understands & respects basic human rights, equality & freedom, safety & dignity. Women in the west are standing with us in our fight & calling on the Western governments to criminalize the Gender Apartheid Regimes in Afghanistan & Iran & any other country where women are treated as second class citizens-class citizens & oppressed & dehumanized because of their gender.
Western Women Joining our Campaign Against Gender Apartheid
Women have been subjugated, dehumanized & controlled in all societies all the time. As the world moved forward & recognized the misogyny & discrimination women face every day & set to better itself for its women inhabitants, Gender Apartheid Regimes dug their hills in & doubled down on oppressing women, shaming them into submission & silence, using physical force if that doesn’t work out & murdering women with little to no consequences. Women all around the world deserve to have human dignity, safety & autonomy but that will not be possible in Gender Apartheid Regimes.
Slut Shaming Women to Death
Some names are burned into our collective consciousness for eternity. Sahar Khodayari, #TheBlueGirl, set herself on fire after being arrested and sentenced to prison. Her crime? Wanting to watch her favorite football team in a stadium. Sahar died a painful death because it’s a crime for women and girls in the Gender Apartheid Islamic Regime to enter a stadium. Generation after generation of girls never experience the joy of watching sports live, cheering for their favorite team, wearing a fan jersey or painting their faces the color of their team. Sahar died and this law still prohibits girls and women from participating in an activity that’s taken for granted in other parts of the world.

This generation of women in Afghanistan has witnessed shocking atrocities, untold pain & suffering under the Taliban. Suraya Haqyar, a human rights activist and a member of Afghanistan’s Women’s Justice Movement talks about Shukria Tabasssum, the 9 year-old Hazara girl who was beheaded in Zabul and so many other painful deaths at the hands of Taliban who show their hatred of women by limiting women’s and girl’s access to education and prohibiting women from existing in society. Women in Iran and Afghanistan exist as second-class citizens and that needs to be criminalized internationally.

One of “Girls of Revolution Street” & a prominent women’s rights activist Shima Babei joined the United Against Gender Apartheid. Shima participated in anti-hijab demonstrations & civil acts of disobedience from 2017 to 2019 in the Islamic Regime. She was imprisoned for her activism but she never stopped her resistance because Shima, like many other survivors of the Islamic Regime, knows that Gender Apartheid Regimes thrive on silencing women & removing them from the general public as a means to further their agenda & that’s why we fight to criminalize them.

Sareh is an LGBTQ Rights Activist who was in prison and under the death sentence by the Islamic Regime for more than 500 days for her gender identity and for her activism for LGBTQ people. Sareh was married off at the age of 14 and is a mother to 2 young children. She joined the United Against Gender Apartheid Campaign to lend the campaign her voice and her courage to help raise awareness about the torture, forced marriages, forced transition of Gay and Lesbian individuals, imprisonment, rape, and death threats people like her face. She is here to help the world understand the dangerous situation under which the LEGBTQ community lives and dies in Gender Apartheid Islamic Republic of Iran.
Death & Death Sentence for LGBTQ Activists
Shabnam Momeni, human rights activist, talks about Honour killings and child marriages women experience in Gender Apartheid Regimes. Women and girls are murder by their fathers, husbands, brothers or male guardians in the name of honour and their murderers go free because they claim by murdering these women and girls they restored honour to the family. Girls are married off at a young age and they have no control over their lives and their bodies. Gender Apartheid Regimes do not consider women as full humans, deserving of bodily autonomy and control over their own fates. The free world should stand with us as we work to criminalize Gender Apartheid Regimes and these unacceptable practices against women.

The Islamic Regime arrested Nahid Persson Sarvestani for making a movie about two sex workers in Iran who had to work under dangerous circumstances to raise their children in a country where they would be prosecuted for having sex outside marriage. However, the Islamists marry these women & other sex workers for a short period of time to make the sexual relationship religiously & legally acceptable. Nahid has made many successful movies about the abhorrent situation women have to endure under the Islamic Regime’s Gender Apartheid. She joined this movement of women fighting against oppression & dehumanization, asking the free world to classify the Islamic Regime as Gender Apartheid in international laws.

Ghazal Abdollahi, who is an artist herself, comes from a family of artists. She talks about how despite being privileged in her home, she was repeatedly arrested, threatened & humiliated by the morality police for the crime of shaking a friend’s hand or hugging them goodbye. She talks about how women are property of their fathers, husbands or sons since birth, confined to their homes & excluded from society. That’s a Gender Apartheid by definition & such treatment & discrimination against women should be criminalized by the free world.

On March 8, 2024, women from Afghanistan & Iran poured out their pleas of solidarity & recognition to the world. Women under the Taliban Regime, who have released more than 85 orders, are abolished from society. The mandatory hijab laws, exclusion of women from society & denial of the right to an education are clear examples of Gender Apartheid. Three years ago, girls who were going to school faced locked doors & were turned away from their schools. Girls in Afghanistan are now in the 3rd year of being denied an education. Secondary education is banned for girls & university education for women. Afghanistan under Taliban is the only country in which women & girls do not have access to education.
