Fatima Wajahat, a 22-year-old from Kabul, Afghanistan, was born in Pakistan during the first fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. To protect her freedom, her family disguised her as a boy from the age of five, allowing her to navigate a society that restricted women. Her mother, who had dreamed of walking freely and driving in Kabul, encouraged Fatima and her sisters to pursue their dreams, even if it meant giving up their girlhood.

Growing up with a male identity, Fatima believed being a boy brought freedom—walking at night, cycling, and playing freely. However, as she matured, she began to embrace her womanhood, despite the fear of losing the "male" privileges she had known. By 17, she started her own form of resistance, using art as a tool. She painted on walls scarred by bullets and bombs, determined to break the limitations society placed on women.

In 2021, when the Taliban returned to power, Fatima, then 19, feared losing her education and dreams but chose to fight back. She began creating anti-Taliban art in Kabul under the pseudonym "Dreamer," knowing the risks involved, yet driven by the belief that her defiance could inspire thousands of Afghan girls.

Despite her resistance, her family eventually had to flee Afghanistan and become refugees again. Fatima’s art opened doors for her, and she was able to continue her education at a university in the United States, where she now advocates for the rights of Afghan and Iranian women.
