Mozhgan Keshavarz

Brief info

Mozhghan Keshavarz began her activism against compulsory hijab and for women's rights in 2014 with the "My Stealthy Freedom" campaign, later joining the "White Wednesdays" and "Girls of Revolution Street" movements.

In 2017 and 2018, many women activists were arrested in a widespread effort to suppress the anti-hijab protests. Despite the crackdowns, she, along with many women, continued their civil disobedience. During this time, she was forced to flee from the morality police multiple times and eventually lost her job. Unable to find work in her field due to her activism, she decided to travel across Iran, documenting the lives of resilient women in remote areas.

On March 8, 2019, in celebration of International Women's Day, they gave white roses to women on the metro, asking them to stand in solidarity with activists and women protesting compulsory hijab.

In 2019, she was sentenced to 23 years and 6 months in prison by Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, which was later reduced to 12 years and 7 months on appeal.
