Niloufar Matin

Brief info

Niloufar Matin was born in 1978 at the 400-Bed Hospital in Kabul. Both of her grandmothers were Persian-speaking, and both of her grandfathers were Pashtun. When she was about three years old, her family fled to Iran with her mother, sister, and brother because the Khalq-Parcham government at that time had killed her father.

Her young mother, only 32 years old, became a nurse in Iran and single-handedly cared for her five children. In Iran, Niloofar, her sister, and her mother faced a great deal of harassment, not only because they were Afghan, but also because of their gender. After 11 years, they moved to India, and nine years later, they came to the United States.

Due to numerous challenges, Niloofar was unable to finish school, but now at the age of 47, she is finally completing her high school diploma. For the past 24 years in the U.S., she has always been, and continues to be, a voice for her people, and will remain so in the future. Currently, she is the host of the program "Women of the National Resistance" on Sohail TV Global.
